Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A vermilion Jaldar rug with two columns of five octagonal compartments each, every one holding a stepped diamond gül with a small flower at its centre. Narrow bands link the compartments into a full lattice, and small diamond-shaped güls sit where the bands cross, forming the net that gives Jaldar its name. A border of stepped diamonds, framed by narrow guard stripes, surrounds the field.

Hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool, with a soft, lustrous pile. At 62×78cm this is an extra small rug, a good size for an entrance or beside a bed.

  • Origin: Pakistan
  • Type: Pakistani Jaldar, hand-knotted
  • Material: 100% wool
  • Design: Gul (Jaldar lattice)
  • Size: 62×78cm (2'0"×2'7") — Extra Small
  • Colour: Vermilion
  • SKU: N 726681
  • One-of-a-kind: Yes

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use, including busy spots like an entrance.

A deep, warm ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

Where many small Jaldar mats have a single column of güls, this one fits two columns of five side by side, so the net that gives Jaldar its name, from jaal, meaning net, covers the whole field. Narrow bands run between the compartments in both directions, and at each crossing sits a small diamond-shaped gül, like a knot in the net. Each of the ten compartments holds a stepped diamond gül with layered staircase outlines and a small flower at its heart, a motif drawn from Turkmen weaving. Half-compartments cut off at the edges suggest that the lattice continues beyond the rug. A border of stepped diamonds and narrow guard stripes frames the field. With so many repeating units, the rug feels rich and detailed even at this small size. It suits an entrance or a bedside.
