A celadon green Jaldar rug: three stepped diamond güls are stacked down the centre of an open field, each with a small star-like flower at its heart, and stepped half-güls press in from both long sides, forming the net-like framework that gives Jaldar its name. Bands of diamond lattice close each end, and many narrow guard stripes of small crosses and flowers frame the design.

Hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool, with a soft, lustrous pile. At 63×88cm this is an extra small rug, a good size for an entrance or beside a bed.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use, including busy spots like an entrance.

A light ground like this shows dark marks more than a deep ground would, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

Jaldar takes its name from jaal, meaning net, and here the net is formed by the shapes themselves. Three large stepped diamond güls run down the centre of the field, each with layered, staircase outlines and a small star-like flower at its heart. From both long sides, stepped half-güls press inward between them, so the open ground between the motifs reads as a lattice holding everything in place. The half-güls are cut off by the border, as if the pattern carries on beyond the edge of the rug, a feature that comes from Turkmen weaving. At each end, bands of diamond lattice close the field, and many narrow guard stripes of crosses and tiny flowers frame it. The drawing is crisp, so the design stays clear even at this small size. It suits an entrance or a bedside.
