Four dusty pink octagons stacked in a single column, joined by narrow tan lattice bands that open into coral and grey triangles where they meet the frame. Each octagon holds a stepped diamond gül in black, taupe and grey-green with hooked points, and at the heart of each gül is a small red star. Borders of alternating coral and grey-blue lozenges run between fine guard stripes, with a band of diamond lattice at each end and ivory fringe.

Hand-knotted in wool. The red stars at the centres of the four güls are the only strong red inside the field, so they mark the centre line of the rug from one end to the other. At 80×127cm this is an extra small rug — a hallway, doorway or bedside piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

The dusty pink field is light and largely plain inside each octagon, so it will show marks and pile shading more readily than a red rug. It is best where shoes come off rather than straight in from outside.

Everything on this rug's field is drawn in quiet colours — dusty pink ground, black and taupe güls, a soft grey-green inside each diamond — except for one detail repeated four times. At the heart of every gül there is a small red star. On their own they are tiny, but because nothing else in the field shares their colour, the eye joins them up: four red points running down the centre line of the rug like stitches. It is a common trick in Jaldar weaving, saving the strongest colour for the smallest motif, and it is what gives a soft, pale rug a sense of structure. The coral triangles where the lattice meets the frame pick up the same warmth at the edges, so the red at the centre and the coral at the sides frame the pink between them.
