Bijar

Hand-knotted Bijar rugs from Persian Kurdistan. Bijar is woven so densely, with the weft beaten down so hard, that the finished rug is notably heavy and stiff: the reason it has long been called the iron rug of Persia. That construction is also why Bijar rugs last. Herati medallion designs in madder and rose. Each rug is one of a kind.
