A deep teal Jaldar rug: broad bands cross the field and divide it into a column of three large octagons, and each octagon holds a diamond-shaped gül with stepped, hooked edges and small flowers at its centre. A wide plain band of the ground colour frames the whole rug, and bands of small repeating motifs close each end.

Hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool, with a soft, lustrous pile. At 62×84cm this is an extra small rug, a good size for an entrance or beside a bed.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use, including busy spots like an entrance.

A deep ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

Jaldar takes its name from jaal, meaning net, and the net here is formed by broad bands that cross the field and meet at short links, dividing it into three large octagonal compartments stacked down the centre. Each compartment holds a diamond-shaped gül with stepped, hooked edges and small flowers at its heart, a motif that comes from Turkmen weaving. Where the bands reach the border, the compartments are cut off, so the lattice seems to continue beyond the edge of the rug. Narrow guard stripes of small diamonds and flowers run around the field, a band of repeating motifs closes each end, and a wide plain frame of the ground colour finishes the edges cleanly. The drawing is crisp, so the structure reads clearly even at this small size. It suits an entrance or a bedside.
