Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A champagne Jaldar rug: the field is divided into three stacked panels by bars with stepped, staircase edges, and each panel holds a stepped diamond gül with a small four-petal flower at its centre. Wide bands of diamond-and-cross lattice close each end, and many narrow guard stripes of small crosses, diamonds and stars frame the design.

Hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool, with a soft, lustrous pile. At 65×91cm this is an extra small rug, a good size for an entrance or beside a bed.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use, including busy spots like an entrance.

A light ground like this shows dark marks more than a deep ground would, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

Jaldar means net or lattice, and here that framework takes a boxy form. Instead of diagonal bands, straight bars with stepped, staircase-like edges divide the field into three stacked panels, so each gül sits in its own almost octagonal compartment. The güls are stepped diamonds with hooked outlines and a small four-petal flower at the heart, a shape that comes from Turkmen weaving. At each end, a wide band of diamond-and-cross lattice closes the field, and around everything run many narrow guard stripes of tiny crosses, diamonds and stars, so the border is almost as rich as the field itself. The drawing is crisp and regular, which keeps the busy pattern clear even at this small size. It suits an entrance or a bedside.
