Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

Four red octagons stacked in a single column, each holding a stepped diamond gül in tan, black and red with a small star at its heart, joined by narrow tan lattice bands that open into grey-blue triangles where they meet the frame. The octagons are set inside wide tan and beige borders — several bands of small red and grey-blue crosses, diamond diaper and black guard lines — which take up more of the rug than the red field itself, with a band of red and grey-blue flower-heads at each end, a plain red outer band and ivory fringe.

Hand-knotted in wool. The tan borders and lattice cover more of the surface than the red octagons, so the rug reads as four red windows set in a broad beige frame. At 93×148cm this is a 3×5 rug — a hallway, entrance or bedside piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

The wide beige borders are the largest area of the rug and the lightest, so they will show dirt and traffic marks first in a hallway. The red octagons and red outer band are more forgiving.

At first glance this rug looks red, because the eye goes straight to the four red octagons in the middle. Measure it, though, and the red covers less than the tan. The borders here are unusually wide — several bands of small crosses, diamond diaper and black guard lines, all on a beige ground — and the lattice bands that separate the octagons are tan as well. The red is concentrated in four sharply cut windows, which is exactly why it looks so strong: a colour reads more intensely when it is surrounded by a quiet one. The octagons themselves are the Jaldar net drawn in full, each opening holding a stepped diamond gül, with small grey-blue triangles marking the points where the net meets the frame — the only cool colour on the rug.
