Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A cream lattice dividing the field into ten red octagons, two across and five down, with small eight-pointed stars at every point where the lattice bands cross. Each octagon holds a stepped diamond gül with a saw-toothed edge in cream, gold, grey and black. A wide border of alternating gold and cream octagonal rosettes runs between fine bands of small dotted diaper, with a band of black and tan diamond lattice at each end, a plain red outer band and ivory fringe.

Hand-knotted in wool. The lattice is drawn in full across the whole field, so every one of the ten red octagons is closed in on all sides, and the cream bands and borders cover more of the rug than the red. At 97×148cm this is a 3×5 rug — a hallway, entrance or bedside piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

Cream and gold make up the largest part of this rug — the lattice and the wide border — so it will show dirt and traffic marks more readily than an all-red Jaldar. It is best in a hallway or bedroom where shoes come off, rather than straight in from outside.

Jaldar means net, and on this rug the net is drawn in full. Cream bands run both down and across the field, crossing to make a grid of ten octagonal openings, two across and five down, and at every crossing point the weaver has placed a small eight-pointed star — like the knots in a fishing net. Each opening is filled with red and holds a stepped diamond gül with a saw-toothed edge. Because the net is cream and the openings are red, the rug works almost like a stained-glass window: the pale frame takes up more of the surface than the colour, but it is the red that the eye goes to, ten bright panes set in a light lead. The wide border of gold and cream rosettes keeps to the same light key, so the red stays concentrated in the field.
