Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A finely hand-knotted Persian Nain from the desert-edge town of Nain in central Persia (Iran), woven in 100% wool. The ivory-cream field carries a full Shah Abbasi arabesque of scrolling vines, palmettes and small perching birds, drawn throughout in the pale sky-blue linework that is the hallmark of Nain weaving.

A round radial medallion in navy and blue anchors the centre, with pendant palmettes above and below and deep wine-red corner spandrels framing the field. The ivory main border carries coral rosettes and blue palmettes between fine navy guard stripes. A one-of-a-kind piece.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum gently and regularly on a low setting.
  • Rotate the rug every six months for even wear.
  • Blot spills immediately, working from the outside in.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Have the rug professionally hand-cleaned every few years.

Nain lies on the edge of the central Iranian desert, and its workshops turned from weaving fine cloth to weaving carpets in the 1930s, bringing a textile-maker's precision to the loom that the town has been known for ever since. This piece shows the house style at its most characteristic: an ivory-cream ground worked edge to edge with a Shah Abbasi arabesque, the vines and leaf outlines drawn in pale chalky blue so the field stays light despite the density of the drawing, and small birds tucked among the scrolls for anyone who looks closely. A navy radial medallion holds the centre, deep wine-red spandrels close the corners, and the ivory border carries coral rosettes that pick up the warmth of the field.
