A finely hand-knotted Nain from the desert-edge town of Nain in central Persia (Iran), woven in 100% hand-spun wool. The cream field carries a full Shah Abbasi arabesque of scrolling vines, palmettes and curled saz leaves, drawn throughout in the pale sky-blue linework that is the hallmark of Nain weaving, with cobalt, brown and small touches of green and wine red among the flowerheads.
A round radial medallion in cream and blue anchors the centre, framed by a scalloped cartouche outline, with pendant palmettes above and below. The cream main border carries blue flowerheads on a scrolling vine between fine rope-twist guard stripes, and the weaver's signature cartouche is woven into the lower border. A one-of-a-kind piece.
