An ivory field scattered with small naturalistic floral sprays, and at its centre a large radiating medallion built from concentric rings of tiny motifs in coral, sky blue, rose, sage and gold, ringed by a scalloped border of pendant forms. Heavy tan spandrels fill the corners, and a wide coral-salmon main border of flowering vine frames the whole, closed by sage and ivory guard stripes. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool at a fine gauge. The palette is the thing to notice: this rug uses well over a dozen distinct colours, where a Nain of similar fineness would hold to five or six. That breadth is what allows the medallion to be shaded ring by ring rather than drawn flat, and it is why the centre reads as though lit from within. The drawing is fully curvilinear — stems curve smoothly rather than stepping — which requires both a high knot count and a squared cartoon. At 196×316cm this is a large room rug, suited to a full seating group or a dining table with chairs pulled out.

This is a fine, hand-knotted piece that rewards a little extra care. 100% wool pile with a natural fringe at both ends.

The ivory field will show traffic and spills more readily than a dark rug would, and the coral border runs along all four edges where the rug is walked past. A fine pile also crushes under furniture legs more readily than a coarse one, so a rug pad matters here. Coral and rose are lighter dyes than a deep red and will fade sooner in strong light.

Count the colours and the rug tells you what it is. A Nain of comparable fineness holds to five or six, and the whole design is built around that restraint. This one uses well over a dozen — coral, salmon, rose, pink, sky blue, slate, sage, emerald, gold, tan, brown, cream and black — and it uses them structurally rather than decoratively. Look at the medallion: it is built from concentric rings, and each ring is a slightly different value from the one inside it, so the centre appears to be lit from within. That shading is only possible with a broad palette; with six colours you can draw a medallion but you cannot make it glow. The same breadth lets the small florals scattered across the field each carry two or three tones, so they read as individual flowers rather than as repeated stamps. The drawing is fully curvilinear, with no stepping anywhere, which means a high knot count and a squared cartoon rather than a weaver working from memory.
