A cream field worked all over in fine scrolling vine and small blossoms, with a radiating medallion at its centre built from concentric rings of tiny motifs around a single small rosette. Large scrolling acanthus forms fill the corner spandrels, drawn with a European fullness rather than the flat symmetry of a classical Persian spandrel. A camel-gold main border of flowering vine frames it, with several narrow guard stripes and a natural fringe at both ends.
Hand-knotted in wool at a fine gauge. Where a strongly coloured rug separates its elements by contrast, this one is deliberately tonal — cream and gold carry almost the whole design, with coral, rose, teal and sage appearing only as small accents inside the motifs. That makes it a quieter rug in a room, and it means the drawing has to be very precise, since nothing is being held apart by colour. At 204×308cm this is a large room rug, big enough for a full seating group or a dining table with chairs pulled out. A pale ground of this kind shows traffic and spills readily.
