A turquoise field carrying a continuous chain of diamond medallions running point to point down the centre, each built from six or seven concentric serrated rings in cream, gold, wine red and navy around a red centre. Smaller devices drawn the same way fill the gaps between them. Very wide multi-band borders of diamond diaper and reciprocal sawtooth in cream, red, gold and navy frame the field, closing at each end with a broad panel of larger diamonds. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The medallions are built from rings whose sawtooth edges interlock rather than sit parallel, which is what makes them read as radiating outward instead of as flat concentric bands. At 79×320cm this is a long runner, suited to a corridor or a hallway. A mid-toned turquoise ground is reasonably forgiving of everyday marks, though the cream in the rings will show wear first.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, which makes this a practical choice for a corridor that gets real use.

A mid-toned turquoise ground hides everyday marks better than a pale rug. The cream is the vulnerable colour — it appears in every ring of every medallion and throughout the borders, and it is the first thing to grey. Because the drawing is so fine, soiling tends to blur the rings together before it looks like dirt, so regular light cleaning matters more here than on a bolder design.

Take one medallion and count outward from its red centre: six or seven concentric rings, each a different colour, each with a sawtooth edge. That much is common enough. The thing worth looking at is how the rings meet. The teeth of one ring do not sit opposite the teeth of the next — they sit opposite the notches, so each ring's points push into the gaps of the ring outside it, and every boundary between two colours is a zip rather than a line.

That single decision is why the medallions appear to radiate. Concentric rings with parallel edges would read as flat bands, one inside another, and the eye would take them as a target. Interlocked, the boundaries all point outward at once and the whole medallion seems to expand from its centre. The medallions are also joined point to point down the length rather than spaced apart, so the effect repeats without a break — a chain of expanding diamonds rather than a row of separate ones. Follow the join between any two and you will find they share a single point of wool.
