Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A crimson field carrying five stepped diamond güls in a single column, each in cream, tan and gold with a small red rosette at its heart and a hooked, serrated outline. Small stepped half-diamonds with hooked tips reach in from both sides of the field, level with the gaps between the güls. Several wide border bands of small rosettes and dots in red, cream, gold and black run down both long sides, while each end carries an extra tan band of gold and pale green diamond lattice, closed by a plain crimson outer band and ivory fringe.

Hand-knotted in wool. The tan diamond-lattice band appears only across the two ends of the rug, not along the sides, so the ends are framed more heavily than the long edges. At 95×163cm this is a 3×5 rug — a hallway, entrance or bedside piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

Crimson hides everyday marks well, but the open field between the güls will show vacuum tracks and pile shading. The tan end bands and the ivory fringe are the parts that will show dirt first in a hallway.

Look at the two short ends of this rug. Between the main border and the plain crimson edge, each end carries a band that the long sides do not: a tan strip of interlocking diamonds in gold and pale green. Turkmen weavers called this kind of end panel an elem, and it is one of the details Pakistani Jaldars have kept from their Turkmen ancestors. It gives the rug a top and a bottom — the ends are framed more heavily than the sides — and it changes the colour of the rug where it meets the floor, with a band of warm tan instead of red. Inside that frame the design stays simple: five identical güls running down an open crimson field, with hooked half-diamonds at the edges marking the gaps between them, the last trace of the net that gives the Jaldar its name.
