This rug fills a deep navy, midnight-blue ground with an all-over flowering garden. Fine rows of small blossoming plants, palmettes and curling vines repeat across the field in a richly varied palette — gold, teal-green, rust, salmon, cream and soft red — so the dark ground seems to come alive with colour. There is no single medallion; the pattern flows in every direction, immersive and endlessly detailed.

Framing the field is a wide, deep-red border carrying large floral palmettes and cartouches in gold, cream, teal and green, balanced by gold guard stripes and a navy outer edge. The warm red frame sets off the cool navy field, while the many colours of the flowers give the rug a jewelled, tapestry-like richness. It is the kind of multicoloured piece that draws a different detail to the eye each time you look.

Hand-knotted in Pakistan with the fine Persian double knot, the rug is woven in pure wool on a cotton foundation — the pile dense and even, the floral detail exceptionally fine, finished with a hand-tied ivory fringe.
