A wine red field packed with round Turkmen güls, each quartered by a cross and filled with pale curled hooks, set so close that the ground survives only as narrow channels between them, with small dark cross devices standing at every junction. Very wide multi-band borders of palmettes, rosettes, dense diaper and fine cream guards frame the field. Cream fringe at both ends.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan. The field is about three-quarters covered in drawing, and the spacing of the güls is extraordinarily consistent — measured across the width, the repeat correlates with itself at over seventy per cent, which is close to mechanical for hand work. At 202×293cm this is a large room rug, suited to a living or dining room.
