Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A wine red field ruled by narrow woven lines into six vertical panels, each carrying a stacked column of arched devices in near-black and madder, topped by a small ivory fan. Very deep multi-band borders frame the field on all four sides, running octagonal cartouches, hooked repeats and fine chequered guards. Ivory fringe.

Hand-knotted in hand-spun wool. The panels repeat every 21.6cm across and the devices every 33.1cm down — a cell half again as tall as it is wide, which is what makes the field read as columns rather than as a grid. At 199×282cm this is a large room rug, suited to a living or dining room.

100% hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills. Hand-knotted in northern Afghanistan with an ivory fringe at both ends.

About as forgiving as a rug gets. Under four-tenths of one per cent of the surface is pale enough to count as neutral and the whole piece sits in one wine red register. The small ivory fans at the head of each device are the one light colour, at 1.34% of the rug, and they are what carries the design at a distance — worth more attention than their area suggests.

This field is ruled into columns but not into rows. Narrow woven lines run the full height of the rug, dividing it into six vertical panels; nothing equivalent crosses it horizontally. The measurements follow that exactly. Sliding the pattern across the width, the match at one panel step is 0.54 and at two steps 0.52 — the columns hold. Sliding it down the length, the best match anywhere is 0.29.

That gap is the ruled lines doing their job. A column boundary woven into the rug is a physical guide: the weaver can see it, count against it, and cannot drift away from it without the error becoming obvious immediately. The vertical placement of each arched device has no such reference — it is judged by eye against the one below — and the correlation is barely half as strong. The design is effectively telling you where the weaver was given help and where they were not. It also sets the proportion: the cell comes out 21.6cm wide by 33.1cm tall, half again as tall as it is broad, so the eye runs up and down the panels rather than across them.
