A deep madder-red field is covered with rows of black tribal geometry in this hand-knotted Ghazni — diamonds, hooked lozenges, combs and zigzag bands drawn freehand in the nomadic manner. The dark linework against the glowing red gives it a bold, primitive-modern character, equal parts tribal artefact and graphic statement.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool rich in lanolin, the pile is dense and soft underfoot and naturally resistant to everyday wear. The red is built from natural madder, so it glows and shifts in soft abrash, and every motif is drawn slightly differently — the mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made rug.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

This Gabbeh wears its tribal heart openly: a glowing madder-red ground is filled with rows of black geometry — hooked diamonds, combs, S-forms and zigzag bands — the kind of protective and clan motifs nomadic weavers have used for generations. Drawn entirely freehand and knotted by hand in Afghanistan from naturally dyed wool, the red carries soft madder abrash and no two motifs are identical, the unmistakable fingerprint of a single weaver.
