Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A near-black espresso field carrying an all-over lattice of interlocking circles drawn as a fine ivory ribbon, the ground inside every compartment packed with tiny rose and gold blossoms. Plain camel roundels and pale blue lozenges alternate at the points where the circles cross. Several borders frame the field: a broad peach ground of flowering vine, denim blue bands either side of it, and a blue outer edge. Ivory fringe.

Hand-knotted in wool at a very fine gauge — the flowers filling the lattice are drawn at a scale that only a high knot count makes possible. The camel roundels are the exception, and they are completely plain. At 304×250cm this is a large room rug, suited to a formal living or dining room.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in the Pakistani double-knot manner and finished with an ivory fringe. A design drawn at this scale only reads on a closely clipped pile at a high knot count — the blossoms filling the lattice would simply be lost on a coarser weave.

The field is the practical part of this rug: near-black, densely covered, and about as forgiving as a surface can be. The exposure is at the edges. The peach border ground is the palest large area on the rug, and the plain camel roundels are the one place in the field where a mark would sit on open wool with no pattern to break it up.

Almost every square centimetre of this field is worked. Inside each compartment of the circle lattice the espresso ground is filled with rose and gold blossoms drawn at the smallest scale the weave allows, and the ribbon that forms the lattice is outlined and shaded along its whole length. Then, at the points where the circles cross, the weaver stopped. The camel roundels sitting on those crossings are plain — flat discs of undecorated wool with nothing drawn on them at all.

The difference is measurable. Taking local contrast, which records how much the surface varies from point to point regardless of how brightly it is lit, and sampling only the interiors of each region so the boundaries do not contaminate the result: the roundels read 0.054 and the rest of the field reads 0.367. The field carries close to seven times the drawing. Those discs account for under 3% of the field, which is exactly why they work — too few to read as a second pattern, just enough to give the eye somewhere to stop. On a design this dense, without them there would be no rest anywhere on the rug, and the whole field would collapse into texture at any distance beyond arm's length.
