Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A dusty blue field covered with an all-over damask pattern: rows of lobed, four-pointed medallions set inside a network of curving ogee frames, with leafy scrolls, small flowers and rosettes filling the spaces between them. Large half-medallions rise from the lower edge and the pattern runs to every side with no border, finished with a short fringe.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan in wool. The motifs are drawn in soft, close tones, so from a distance the rug reads as one calm dusty blue surface, and the medallions and scrolls only stand out as you come closer. At 196×311cm this is a large rug for a living room or dining room.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use in living and dining rooms.

A light, soft ground like this shows marks and traffic paths more readily than a darker rug. Turning it from time to time helps it wear evenly.

This rug is laid out like a damask fabric. Curving ogee frames link across the whole field, and inside each frame sits a lobed, four-pointed medallion, with leafy scrolls, small flowers and rosettes filling every space in between. Nothing sits at the centre as the main focus: the pattern simply repeats in staggered rows and runs off all four edges, where large half-medallions are cut by the end of the rug. The motifs are drawn in soft tones close to the dusty blue ground, so from across the room the rug reads as one calm, even surface. Walk closer and the medallions, scrolls and tiny flowers appear one by one, each slightly different because each was knotted by hand. With no border, it suits a modern living or dining room.
