Camel and Wine Jaldar Diamond Lattice, Hand-Knotted Wool Rug
Only one available — one-of-a-kind.
A camel field carrying a dense diamond lattice — small stepped diamond güls in staggered rows, each filled with a floral device in wine, navy, green and cream, linked corner to corner by fine diagonal lines so the whole field reads as a connected net. Deep multi-band borders in wine, navy and cream frame it, and a broad end panel of stepped tribal forms closes the design. Woven into that panel is an inscribed cartouche. Cream fringe at both ends.
Hand-knotted in wool at 11/22 quality. The camel ground is uncommon for this weave and does a specific thing: it sits close in value to the wine and navy of the lattice, so the design reads as an even textile surface rather than as bright motifs on a dark field. At 156×216cm this is a compact rug, suited to a study, a bedroom or in front of a fireplace. A mid-toned ground hides everyday marks better than a pale rug, though less well than a dark one.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted at 11/22 quality, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, and the dense drawing hides light soiling well.
The camel ground sits between the extremes: it will show marks more readily than a dark rug but considerably less than a cream one. A small rug concentrates its wear rather than spreading it, so a rug pad and regular rotation matter more here than on a room-sized piece.
This is a Jaldar rather than a Bokhara, and the difference is in the shape and the spacing. A Bokhara gül is a rounded octagon set in straight columns; a Jaldar gül is an angular stepped diamond set in staggered rows, so that each one sits between two of the row above and the field reads as a diagonal lattice rather than as a grid. Both are Turkmen tribal emblems and the confusion is understandable at a glance, but once you have seen the diagonal you cannot unsee it — run a finger from any diamond to its neighbours and the path is always at forty-five degrees. What is unusual here is the gül count. These are small and very densely packed, so the rug carries several hundred where a coarser Jaldar might carry thirty, and each still holds a legible floral device inside it. That density is the clearest indicator of quality in this weave and it is something a buyer can check in a few seconds.
