A camel field carrying a single column of wide, flattened Turkmen güls, each filled with small blocky devices in orange, cream and sea green around a teal cross. Small arrow-shaped devices in teal and orange stand at both field edges between them. Very wide multi-band borders of star-güls, bead lines and hooked repeats frame the field, and both ends close with a bold zigzag panel in black, cream and teal. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. Ground and principal accent belong to the same colour family here — measured across the whole rug, close to three-quarters of the surface falls in the orange-gold range, the camel field and the orange drawing differing in depth rather than in hue. At 61×189cm this is a narrow runner, suited to a small hallway or a galley kitchen.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, which makes this a practical choice for a corridor that gets real use.

A camel ground sits at the paler, warmer end of the range and is less forgiving than a red or dark rug. The cream in the güls and border repeats is the first colour to grey, and on a runner only 61 centimetres wide there is nowhere for traffic to spread — the whole width is walked on.

Most gül rugs set their drawing against the ground in a different colour — cream and indigo on madder, say. This one does something quieter. The camel ground and the orange filling the güls sit in the same part of the spectrum, separated by depth rather than by hue, and measured across the whole surface close to three-quarters of the rug falls into that single orange-gold range. What is left is cream and black doing the outlining, and a small amount of sea green.

The sea green is doing more work than its share of the surface suggests. It is the only cool colour anywhere on the rug — in the cross at each gül's centre, in the small arrows along the field edges, and in the zigzag panel at each end — and because everything around it is warm, the eye finds it immediately. On a rug this narrow that matters: with only 61 centimetres of width to work in, a second warm accent would have crowded the camel, whereas one cool note lifts it without adding weight. Look for the green and you will find it holds the whole design together.
