Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A bright red Jaldar rug with a column of three small stepped güls, each with a hooked outline and a quartered centre, on an open ground. Stepped half-diamonds enter from the long sides between the güls and from the four corners, so the field reads as one continuous net. A wide main border of octagonal medallions, flanked by narrow guard borders of small geometric repeats, frames the design, with fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool and silk, with a soft, lustrous pile. At 62×88cm this is an extra small rug, ideal for an entrance, a bedside or a small space.

Material: wool and silk pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan. The wool gives softness, durability and a natural resistance to everyday dirt, while the silk adds a luminous sheen and highlights the finer details of the design.

A deep, rich ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

Jaldar rugs are woven in Pakistan in the Turkmen tradition, close cousins of the Bokhara; the name comes from the net-like lattice that links their compartments. This small piece carries a column of three stepped güls, each with a hooked outline and a quartered centre, set well apart on an open ground. Stepped half-diamonds enter from the long sides between the güls and from the four corners, so the field reads as one continuous net. A wide main border of octagonal medallions, flanked by narrow guard borders of small geometric repeats, frames the whole, and the pile is finished with fringe at both ends. The bright red ground makes the crisp geometry sing, and the silk in the pile gives the details a soft glow. A rug of this size is made for an entrance, a bedside or any small space that wants a touch of pattern underfoot.
