A deep red field carries three bold stepped star medallions — their hearts worked in navy, teal and cream — down its length in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan. Small crosses and güls fill the ground, all framed by a wide ivory border of eight-pointed star-flowers in red, navy and gold. It has the strong, radiant drawing of a classic Caucasian Kazak weave.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
