A deep wine Nain rug with a finely drawn rosette medallion at the centre, its many-pointed star built from layers of delicate tracery, with pendants above and below. Around it, the field is filled with scrolling vines, palmettes and blossoms in the flowing Shah Abbasi style, mirrored with great precision, and shaped corners frame the field. A wide border of flowering arabesques and small blossoms, between slim guard stripes, completes the design.

Hand-knotted in Nain, central Iran, in fine wool. At 198×305cm (about 4.5 tatami) this is a large rug, well suited to a living room, a dining room or a bedroom.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Nain, Iran. Fine wool is naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a gentle sheen and a natural resistance to everyday dirt.

A deep, rich ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

The rugs of Nain, woven in the old desert city of the same name in central Iran, are counted among the finest Persian rugs, admired for their dense, precise knotting and graceful drawing. At the heart of this piece is a round rosette medallion, a many-pointed star built from layer upon layer of fine tracery, with small pendants reaching up and down the field. Around it, scrolling vines, palmettes and blossoms in the flowing Shah Abbasi style spread out in perfect mirror image, and shaped corner pieces turn the field into one large, softly outlined panel. A wide border of flowering arabesques and small blossoms, between slim guard stripes, frames the whole. The deep ground gives the fine drawing real depth and warmth. Returns
For a change of mind, contact us within 30 days of delivery. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. Return shipping is paid by the customer and can be expensive from outside Japan, so please ask us about size or colour before you order. If your rug arrives damaged, defective or not as ordered, contact us with photos within 30 days of delivery: we pay for the return and send a replacement or a full refund.
