Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A crimson Jaldar rug with three large diamond güls stacked down the centre of the field, each a layered lozenge with stepped edges and a small star-flower at its heart. Broad stepped half-güls press in from both long sides between them, so the open ground zigzags from gül to gül and forms the net that gives Jaldar its name. A wide border of small hooked motifs, framed by narrow guard stripes and a sawtooth edge, surrounds the field.

Hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool, with a soft, lustrous pile. At 62×91cm this is an extra small rug, a good size for an entrance or beside a bed.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use, including busy spots like an entrance.

A deep, warm ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

Three large diamond güls fill the centre of this rug, each a layered lozenge built from several stepped outlines around a small star-flower, so the motif seems to glow outward from its heart. Between them, broad stepped half-güls press in from both long sides, leaving the open ground to zigzag from one gül to the next in a bold, rhythmic line. That zigzag ground is the jaal, or net, that gives Jaldar its name, and because the half-güls are cut off by the border, the pattern seems to carry on beyond the rug, a device taken from Turkmen weaving. A wide border of small hooked motifs frames the field, with narrow guard stripes inside and a sawtooth edge running all the way around the outside. The strong ground makes the pale güls stand out clearly. It suits an entrance or a bedside.
