A red Tabriz rug with a lobed central medallion carrying a small rosette at its heart, and above and below it a vase-of-flowers pendant motif. Four shaped corner pieces with large palmettes and flower sprays answer the medallion, and the ground between is strewn with naturalistic blossoms, buds and leaves drawn in the realistic garden-flower manner for which Tabriz is known. A wide border of flower sprays, between slim guard stripes of small blossoms, completes the design.

Hand-knotted in Tabriz, north-west Iran, in fine wool. At 150×206cm (about 2 tatami) this is a medium rug, well suited to a bedroom or an office.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Tabriz, Iran. Fine wool is naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a gentle sheen and a natural resistance to everyday dirt.

A deep, rich ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

Tabriz, in north-west Iran, is one of the oldest weaving centres in the Persian world and the source of many of its most refined designs. This piece follows the classic medallion-and-corners layout, drawn in the naturalistic garden-flower style that Tabriz workshops made their own. At the centre sits a lobed medallion with a small rosette at its heart, and above and below it a vase-of-flowers pendant motif rises into the field. Four shaped corner pieces with large palmettes and flower sprays answer the medallion, and the ground between is strewn with blossoms, buds and leaves, each drawn as if from life. A wide border of flower sprays, set between slim guard stripes of small blossoms, frames the whole. The red ground makes the flowers glow and gives the whole rug a warm, festive character. Returns
For a change of mind, contact us within 30 days of delivery. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. Return shipping is paid by the customer and can be expensive from outside Japan, so please ask us about size or colour before you order. If your rug arrives damaged, defective or not as ordered, contact us with photos within 30 days of delivery: we pay for the return and send a replacement or a full refund.
