Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep indigo field is covered edge to edge with an all-over lattice of small flowers, botehs and eight-pointed stars in red, gold and cream — the ‘afshan’ pattern of the eastern Caucasus — in this hand-knotted Afghani Sherwan. A red border of palmettes and small animal figures, flanked by cream guard stripes of triangles, frames the richly worked ground. It has the deep, jewel-like colour of a classic Shirvan–Baku weave.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Afghani Sherwan rugs revive the crisp geometry of the old Caucasus — Shirvan, Kuba and Baku weavings. Here a deep indigo field is covered with an all-over ‘afshan’ lattice of small red and gold flowers, botehs and stars, framed by a red border of palmettes and animal figures. Finely knotted in Afghanistan from natural-dyed highland wool, every motif is worked by hand — the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.
