Red Shirvan Gül Lattice Rug, Hand-Knotted Afghani Sherwan

A deep red field is filled edge to edge with a lattice of small star-güls — a shimmer of teal, gold, cream and navy — in this finely knotted Afghani Sherwan. Every motif is drawn a little differently, giving the field a lively, jewel-box quality, all framed by an ivory border of güls and star medallions with a teal diagonal-stripe outer guard. It has the crisp, repeating geometry of a classic Caucasian Shirvan weave.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from fine, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense and finely knotted, giving sharp definition to every motif and border. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with gentle abrash and every figure is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.
