A masterclass in fine, all-over weaving, this rug carries the celebrated Mahi, or ‘fish’, design: a small lobed medallion at the centre, surrounded by a field filled edge to edge with the tiny Herati lattice of rosettes and curved fish-leaves. The drawing is exceptionally fine, the whole surface alive with rose, gold, and ivory detail.
Here the Herati lattice is worked over a deep navy ground in warm rose-pink, salmon, and gold, so the field shimmers with colour rather than reading as plain blue. A soft camel-gold medallion glows at the centre, echoed by a wide gold floral border with rose and ivory accents. Rose is the rug’s quiet signature, threading through the pattern and warming the cool navy ground.
Hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with the tight double knot, the rug shows the very high knot count the Mahi design demands — the only way to render its tiny, precise motifs. Refined and versatile, it brings detail and warmth to a living room, bedroom, or study without overwhelming. As a one-of-a-kind handmade piece, no other rug shares its exact colours, drawing, or character. Woven with the persian double knot.
