A warm rust ground is divided into a grid of garden compartments — each a miniature garden of flowering plants, diamond medallions, botehs and cypress trees in gold, teal, cream and navy — gathered around a central navy star medallion in this hand-knotted Ghazni. A red border of blossoming cypress trees, flanked by navy floral guard stripes, frames the panelled field, in the classic Bakhtiari ‘khesti’ garden design.

Hand-knotted in the Ghazni highlands of Afghanistan from soft, hand-spun wool, the pile is dense and hard-wearing, with a gentle sheen. Coloured with natural dyes and worked entirely by hand, the tones glow with soft abrash and every compartment is drawn slightly differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

Ghazni rugs are hand-knotted in the highlands of Afghanistan, prized for their soft, hand-spun wool and glowing natural dyes. This one follows the Bakhtiari ‘garden panel’ (khesti) design — a grid of compartments, each a little garden of flowering plants, medallions, botehs and cypress trees in rust, gold, teal and cream — gathered around a central star medallion and framed by a red border of blossoming trees. Worked entirely by hand, every panel is drawn a little differently, the fingerprint of a one-of-a-kind piece.
