Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A glowing red field blooms into a paradise garden in this hand-knotted Ghazni shikargah — a ‘hunting ground’ design, one of the most treasured in Oriental weaving, once reserved for the courts of Persia and Mughal India. A great flowering tree of life rises at the centre, its branches full of blossom and birdsong, while gazelles and deer leap, lions and leopards give chase, and hares and songbirds hide among the flowering vines. A stately ivory-and-navy border of palmettes frames the scene.

Hand-knotted in the Ghazni highlands of Afghanistan from soft, hand-spun highland wool, the pile is dense, lustrous and built to last for generations. The palette is drawn entirely from natural dyes, so the red glows with a gentle abrash and every animal and blossom is drawn a little differently — the honest signature of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

The shikargah — literally ‘hunting ground’ — is among the most prized and storied designs in Oriental weaving, once reserved for the courts of Persia and Mughal India. Across a glowing red field a great flowering tree of life spreads its branches, and all around it move the creatures of a paradise garden: leaping gazelles and deer, prowling lions and leopards, hares, and birds among the blossoms. Hand-knotted in the Ghazni highlands of Afghanistan from soft, hand-spun wool and natural dyes, each animal is drawn by hand and no two are alike — a genuine one-of-a-kind heirloom.
