Terracotta Red and Green Panel Gabbeh, Hand-Knotted Wool Rug

A gabbeh in the true tribal sense: no border, no medallion, no repeating pattern — just a long green panel running almost the whole length of a terracotta red field, tapering slightly as it goes, with rows of small hooked motifs standing along either side of it like a line of plants. At the far end the hooks gather into a short row of stems; at the near end they trail off into open ground. Everything is drawn freehand in the weaving rather than copied from a cartoon, which is why no two hooks are quite alike and the panel edges waver.
Hand-knotted in Ghazni wool, a highland Afghan fleece with a high lanolin content that gives the surface its sheen. Both the red and the green carry strong abrash — wide horizontal banding where one dye lot gives way to the next — and on a design this plain that banding is most of what you look at. At 90×286cm this is a true runner for a corridor, a landing or a long kitchen. A mid-toned red ground is practical in a busy space; it hides everyday marks far better than a pale rug would.

Returns We accept returns within 7 days of delivery. Items must be unused and in their original condition. To start a return, contact our customer support.
