Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A Bokhara with its field left empty. Where this weave normally fills the ground with columns of Turkmen güls, here the whole pattern has moved outward into six bands of border — rows of small octagonal güls, crosses, dogtooth and dense geometric filler in rose, salmon and near-black — leaving a plain sage-green field with nothing on it at all. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool at a fine gauge. The plain field is not the easy option it looks: with no pattern to occupy the eye, every irregularity in the knotting shows across two metres of open ground, and the soft horizontal banding visible here is abrash, where one dye lot gave way to the next. At 199×236cm this is a wide, near-square room rug — an unusual proportion, and worth measuring for, since it will sit differently from a standard rectangle. A mid-toned green ground hides everyday marks better than a pale rug, though the open field shows footmarks and vacuum tracks more than a patterned one would.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted at a fine gauge, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, and a room-sized rug spreads wear over a large area rather than concentrating it.

The plain field is the part that needs attention. With no pattern to break them up, footmarks, vacuum tracks and furniture-leg crushing all show more than they would on a gülled Bokhara, and the abrash banding will not even out over time. A rug pad matters more here than usual.

A Bokhara is normally defined by its field: columns of Turkmen güls repeated edge to edge, with the borders as a supporting frame. This rug reverses that entirely. All the pattern lives in the border — six bands of it, including a row of small octagonal güls that identifies the weave beyond doubt — and the field is left bare. It is worth knowing that an empty field is the harder thing to weave, not the easier. A dense pattern hides a knot out of line, a row pulled tight, a dye lot changing; take the pattern away and all of it is visible across two metres of open ground. That is why the wool matters more here than on a patterned rug, and why the soft horizontal banding is worth understanding rather than worrying about — it is abrash, the mark of hand-spun yarn dyed in small lots, and on a plain field it becomes the only movement in the design.
