Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A blue field centred on a large red octagon set in a square frame, holding an orange hooked medallion at its heart with gold flower-heads and small blue panels around it. Above and below the centre stand rows of smaller panels — orange hooked rectangles flanked by navy squares — and in each corner of the field sits a cream square scattered with small eight-pointed stars, framed by hooked green tendrils. Small hooked figures, rosettes and crosses fill the blue ground in between. A red border of stepped bars and hooked motifs in cream, blue and green runs between guard stripes of small coloured squares, closed by a plain blue outer band and a short fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The four cream corner panels are the lightest shapes on the rug and frame the red centre from all four sides, each filled with its own scatter of small stars. At 63×91cm this is an extra small rug — a doorway, bedside or wall piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan, with a short fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the thick pile of a Kazak is made for everyday floor use.

Red is the dominant colour and hides everyday marks well. The four cream corner panels are the lightest areas and will show dirt first, and the blue field and outer band will show pile shading and fade from strong sunlight before the red.

This layout belongs to one of the best-known Kazak designs, the Karachov: a large octagon medallion set inside a square at the centre of the field, with square panels arranged around it like rooms around a courtyard. Here the octagon is red, holding an orange hooked medallion and four gold flower-heads, and the panels around it are built up in tiers — orange hooked rectangles and navy squares directly above and below, then four larger cream squares in the corners. Look inside those cream squares. Each holds a loose scatter of small eight-pointed stars, no two arranged quite the same way, drawn as if the weaver placed them freehand. That contrast is typical of the best Kazaks: a strict, symmetrical architecture of panels, filled with small motifs that keep the rug lively and personal.
