A soft peach field shaped into four stacked diamonds by zigzag bands of grey-blue and black, each diamond holding a small stepped gül in black, rose and ivory with little ivory finials at its points. The triangles left at each side of the field are dusty pink, set with coral stars and small crosses. Multi-band borders of diamond diaper, hooked repeats and gold accents run on all four sides, closing at both ends in a band of black and grey lozenges, with ivory fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The four diamonds meet point to point down the centre of the rug, so the field reads as one continuous zigzag rather than four separate medallions. At 80×130cm this is an extra small rug — a hallway, doorway or bedside piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

Peach is a light ground and the four diamonds are left largely plain, so they will show marks and pile shading more readily than a dark red rug — the field will look lighter or darker depending on which way the pile is brushed. In a doorway, it is best where shoes come off rather than straight in from outside.

Most Jaldar rugs set their lattice square to the edges, as a grid. This one turns it on its side. The bands that form the net run diagonally, zigzagging down the rug, and the openings they leave are diamonds rather than rectangles — four of them, meeting point to point. Now look at the dusty pink triangles along both sides of the field. Each is exactly half a diamond, cut off by the border. They are the openings of the next column of the lattice, the one that would sit to the left and right if the rug were wider. The border simply crops the pattern where it chose to stop. It is a small detail, but it changes how the rug feels: instead of a closed composition framed on all sides, the field reads as a window onto a larger net that carries on beyond the edge.
