Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A near-black navy field carrying two columns of Turkmen güls — around twenty rows of them — each gül a rounded octagon quartered into cream, apricot and dark, with a crimson bar at its centre. Small cross-shaped floral devices in crimson and cream sit between the rows. Wide navy borders flank the field, the main band carrying a vertical chain of oval star-güls that alternate strictly cream, salmon, cream, salmon down the whole length. Diagonal-lattice panels close both ends, with cream fringe.

Hand-knotted in wool. Because the field carries an even number of columns, this rug has no gül on its centre line — run a finger down the middle and it passes only through the small crosses set between the two columns. At 79×289cm this is a runner for a hallway or a landing. A near-black ground is about the most forgiving a rug can have, hiding everyday marks far better than the rose and madder grounds usual in this weave.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, which makes this a practical choice for a corridor that gets real use.

A near-black ground is the most forgiving colour a rug can have and hides everyday marks well. The exception is lint and pale fibres, which show on dark wool more than on any other. The cream in the güls and in the border chain is what will show wear first — and on a runner wear concentrates down the centre line, which here is the open channel between the columns rather than the güls themselves.

Most Turkmen rugs put a gül on the centre line. With three columns, or five, there is a middle column and the rug has a spine — a file of emblems running straight down the axis. This one has two columns, and an even number cannot have a middle. The consequence is easy to check: run a finger down the exact centre of the field and it never crosses a gül. It passes only through the small crimson crosses standing in the gaps between the two columns.

That matters more on a runner than it would on a room rug, because a runner is seen almost entirely from one end, walking. What you see going down a corridor is not a grid but two parallel files of güls with an open channel between them, marked at intervals by the crosses. The güls flank rather than lead — you move between them rather than over them. It is a different experience of an entirely orthodox emblem, and it comes from nothing more than the decision to fit two columns into the width instead of one or three.
