A near-black navy field carrying two columns of Turkmen güls — around twenty rows of them — each gül a rounded octagon quartered into cream, apricot and dark, with a crimson bar at its centre. Small cross-shaped floral devices in crimson and cream sit between the rows. Wide navy borders flank the field, the main band carrying a vertical chain of oval star-güls that alternate strictly cream, salmon, cream, salmon down the whole length. Diagonal-lattice panels close both ends, with cream fringe.
Hand-knotted in wool. Because the field carries an even number of columns, this rug has no gül on its centre line — run a finger down the middle and it passes only through the small crosses set between the two columns. At 79×289cm this is a runner for a hallway or a landing. A near-black ground is about the most forgiving a rug can have, hiding everyday marks far better than the rose and madder grounds usual in this weave.
