The whole rug is built from horizontal bands — sixty-three of them, each carrying its own small repeat of hooks, rosettes, combs, boxes or plain colour, in rust, coral, teal, magenta, olive, cream and gold. There is no medallion, no border and no field: the bands run from selvedge to selvedge and stack from one end to the other. Multicoloured wrapped fringe at both ends.
Hand-knotted in wool. The bands run from 1.5cm to 18.6cm deep with a median of 3.1cm, and every one differs measurably from the band above it. Six separate colour families each account for more than three per cent of the surface. At 248×348cm this is a large room rug, suited to a living or dining room.
