A bright crimson field carrying four diamond medallions in a single column, each built from small ivory cross-shaped flowers outlined in black and gathered around a gold centre. Stepped half-diamonds in ivory, crimson and grey-blue reach in from both sides of the field, with quarter-motifs tucked into the four corners. Multi-band borders of alternating crimson and grey-blue lozenges on tan, fine guard stripes and a zigzag band at each end run on all four sides, closed by a plain crimson outer band and ivory fringe.

Hand-knotted in wool. There are three stepped half-diamonds on each side, each set level with one of the three gaps between the four medallions, so the side motifs and the medallions alternate down the length of the rug. At 80×126cm this is an extra small rug — a hallway, doorway or bedside piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

Bright crimson hides everyday marks well, but it is a saturated colour and will show fading from strong sunlight before the darker borders do. The plain crimson band at the edge will show pile shading first, and the ivory in the medallions and the fringe will show dirt first at a doorway.

Stand back from this rug and you see four diamonds on a crimson ground. Come closer and each diamond comes apart into something else: a cluster of small cross-shaped flowers, each one outlined in black and filled with ivory, packed together around a gold centre. The medallion is not a single drawn shape at all but a bouquet of identical small motifs arranged in a diamond, which is why its outline looks stepped and beaded rather than solid. It is a different way of building a Jaldar gül from the hooked or stepped diamonds more often seen, and it gives the rug a lighter, more floral character. The stepped half-diamonds along the sides are the other half of the design: they sit in the gaps between the medallions, so the field alternates medallion, side motif, medallion all the way down, and the Jaldar net is implied rather than drawn.
