Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A crimson field carrying rows of stepped diamond güls — the Jaldar form, angular and lozenge-shaped rather than the rounded octagon of a Bokhara — each drawn in camel, cream and coral with a small hooked centre, and set in staggered rows so the field reads as a lattice. A wide camel-ground border of small diamonds and rosettes frames it, backed by several narrow guard bands, with cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool with silk, which is where the surface comes from: the silk catches light in the gül interiors while the wool ground stays matte, so the diamonds appear to sit slightly forward of the field. The effect changes as you move around the rug and cannot be captured in a single photograph. At 196×234cm this is a wide, near-square room rug, an unusual proportion worth measuring for. A crimson ground hides everyday marks well, though a silk-faced pile shows footprints in strong light.

Wool pile with silk detail, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. A mixed-fibre rug needs to be treated as the more delicate of its two materials: care for this one as you would a silk rug, not a wool one.

The crimson ground hides everyday marks well, but the silk in the güls will shade and show footprints wherever it is walked on. That shading is normal and brushes back out. Use a rug pad, particularly under furniture legs.

Jaldar and Bokhara are close relatives and are constantly confused, but one detail separates them cleanly: the shape of the gül. A Bokhara gül is a rounded octagon, quartered into blocks of colour. A Jaldar gül is an angular stepped diamond, and instead of sitting in straight columns it is set in staggered rows so that the field reads as a lattice rather than as a grid. Both are Turkmen tribal emblems; the difference is a matter of which tradition the drawing follows. The second thing here is the silk. Wool and silk take dye and light differently — silk is smooth and reflective, wool matte and absorbent — so putting the silk into the gül interiors and leaving the ground in wool makes the diamonds appear to lift slightly off the surface. Walk around the rug and they brighten and dim. That is not a photograph-friendly quality, which is exactly why it is worth mentioning.
