Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A cherry red field carrying a pole of medallions that alternate in both shape and colour. One form is a feathered starburst, its points radiating outward like frost on glass; the other is a flattened lozenge filled edge to edge with a fine diamond lattice. They take turns down the length — gold starburst, navy lozenge, teal starburst, orange lozenge — with small rosettes and octagons sitting in the spaces between. A wide golden-cream main border of stepped rosettes and hooked motifs frames the field, backed by an indigo outer band of palmettes, with cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. Everything is drawn rectilinearly, including the feathered points of the starbursts, which on a knot grid means each frond is a small staircase rather than a taper. The red ground carries visible abrash, wide horizontal banding where one dye lot gave way to the next. At 79×316cm this is a runner for a corridor or a landing. A saturated red ground is practical in a busy space and hides everyday marks far better than a pale rug would.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, which makes a Kazak a sensible choice for a corridor that gets real use.

The abrash banding in the red ground is a feature of hand-spun, small-lot dyed wool rather than a fault, and it will not even out over time. A runner takes concentrated traffic down its centre line, so use a rug pad and rotate it end for end regularly.

Two things alternate here at once, which is unusual. The medallions swap shape — feathered starburst, then lattice-filled lozenge, then starburst again — and they also swap colour, running gold, navy, teal, orange and back. Most runners vary one or the other. Changing both risks losing the thread entirely, and it holds together only because the two forms are opposites in density: the starburst is open, its feathered points letting the red ground through between them, while the lozenge is solid, packed edge to edge with a diamond lattice. Open, closed, open, closed down the whole length. Look closely at those feathered points. On a knot grid a taper is impossible, so each frond is a small staircase, stepping in by one knot at a time — which is why they read as crisp rather than soft, and why a coarser weave could not carry this motif at all. The rosettes and octagons scattered between the medallions are not filler either; they sit where the starburst arms leave gaps, and vanish where the lozenges fill the width.
