Four camel octagons stacked in a single column, joined by narrow brown lattice bands that open into wide hatched junctions at the sides. Each octagon holds a stepped diamond gül in brown and black with hooked points, and at the centre of each gül is a small red core with four blue-grey rosettes. Bands of small grey-blue and brown lozenges run down both sides, and each end closes with a band of looped hooked arches, with ivory fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The looped hooked-arch band appears only at the two ends of the rug; the long sides carry lozenges instead, so the ends and the sides are framed differently. At 80×115cm this is an extra small rug — a doorway, bedside or small hallway piece.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted in Pakistan, with ivory fringe at both ends. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the dense pile of a Jaldar is made for everyday floor use.

Camel and brown are among the most practical colours for a small floor rug: they hide dust, everyday marks and light wear better than red or pale fields. The plain camel octagons will still show pile shading — lighter or darker depending on which way the pile has been brushed.

Most Jaldars are built on contrast — a red or pink field against black and navy. This one works almost entirely in one family of colour. The field is camel, the lattice and the güls are brown and black, the borders are brown with grey-blue, and even the plain band at the very edge is camel again. It is a tonal rug, and that is what gives it its quiet, warm character. Look for the exceptions, because there are only two. The grey-blue in the side borders and at the heart of each gül is the one cool colour, and the red appears in just four small places: the core of each of the four güls. Those four red centres are tiny, but in a rug this restrained they are the first thing the eye finds, and they mark the rhythm of the column from one end to the other.
