A bright red field carrying three columns of large güls, each an elongated octagon holding a stepped diamond centre in cream, apricot and black. What is unusual is that they are not free-standing: a slate-grey lattice runs between them, linking every gül to its neighbours so the field reads as a connected net rather than a set of separate medallions. Deep multi-band borders in sand and black frame it, with a broad end panel of tall stepped forms. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool. The lattice is what distinguishes this from a plain gül repeat, and it changes the reading of the whole rug — the red survives as diamond-shaped pools between the linked octagons rather than as a continuous ground. At 156×243cm this is a room-sized rug, suited to a sitting room or under a small dining table. A bright red ground hides everyday marks well, which makes it practical for a space that gets real use.

100% wool pile, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. Wool is resilient and forgiving underfoot, and the dense drawing hides light soiling well.

The bright red ground hides everyday marks but shows lint and pale fibres. Use a rug pad, particularly under furniture legs, which crush a pile more readily than foot traffic does.

Look at what runs between the güls. In most Turkmen weaving the emblems sit on an open ground, each one separate, and the field colour flows around them. Here a slate-grey lattice joins every gül to the ones beside and above it, so the field becomes a connected net and the red survives only as diamond-shaped pools trapped inside the lattice. That inverts figure and ground: instead of red field with motifs on it, you are looking at a grey structure with red showing through. Cover one gül with a hand and the lattice still reads as continuous across the rug. It is a small addition that changes the whole composition, and it is the kind of thing worth pointing out to anyone comparing two red Turkmen rugs side by side, because from a distance they look alike and up close they are doing opposite things.
