Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

This is a rug that rewards a long look. A luminous ivory medallion glows at the centre of a deep ruby-red field, its cusped outline filled with such fine floral tracery that it seems lit from within. Around it, the burgundy ground is woven dense with flowers, leaves, and scrolling vines — a garden captured knot by knot in fine Pakistani wool.

This is the classic Tabriz medallion design at its most intricate. Navy-blue spandrels anchor the four corners, each filled with palmettes and blossoms, while a series of borders — a deep navy band of linked flowers framed by rose, ivory, and sage guard stripes — wraps the whole composition in fine detail. The palette is rich and traditional: ruby and burgundy warmed by rose and salmon, cooled by ivory and sage green, and grounded by deep indigo.

Hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with the tight double knot, the rug shows the high knot density and crisp, controlled drawing that mark a truly fine weave — the kind of piece that becomes more beautiful with age. Its deep red palette brings warmth and a sense of occasion to a formal living room, dining room, or study. As a one-of-a-kind handmade rug, no other piece shares its exact colour, drawing, or character. Woven with the persian double knot.

The Tabriz medallion, named for the great weaving city of Tabriz in northwest Iran, is one of the most enduring designs in the Persian tradition: a single radiant medallion at the centre of a flowering field, mirrored by spandrels in each corner. For centuries this layout has stood for the walled paradise garden. Here it is rewoven by hand in Pakistan in fine wool, faithful to the classical Persian drawing.

What sets this piece apart is the contrast at its heart — a pale ivory medallion floating on a deep ruby ground, so the central motif reads almost like moonlight on dark water. The density of the knotting lets the flowers stay crisp and distinct even at a small scale, a mark of real quality. As a hand-knotted original, its tiny irregularities are the fingerprint of the weaver, not flaws.
