Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A warm camel field carrying a single column of medallions down the centre line — large stepped octagons with hooked outlines alternating with smaller ones, spaced apart rather than packed together, and linked by a fine vine. Small leaves, rosettes and hooked sprays are scattered across the open ground between them. Wide rose-and-grey borders of rosettes frame the whole, backed by narrow guard bands. Cream fringe at both ends.

Hand-knotted in wool with silk. The open field is the notable decision here: rather than filling the ground edge to edge, the design leaves generous golden space between the medallions, so the rug reads calm and light rather than dense. The silk carries the medallion interiors and the scattered motifs, lifting them off the matte wool ground as you move around the rug. At 79×285cm this is a runner for a hallway or a landing. A mid-toned camel ground shows marks less than a pale rug, though a silk-faced pile shows footprints in strong light.

Wool pile with silk detail, hand-knotted, with a natural fringe at both ends. A mixed-fibre rug needs to be treated as the more delicate of its two materials: care for this one as you would a silk rug, not a wool one.

The open golden field is the part to watch. With less pattern to disguise them, footmarks and vacuum tracks show more than they would on a dense design, and the silk shades wherever it is walked on — normal, and it brushes back out. Use a rug pad and rotate the rug end for end regularly.

Most rugs of this family fill the field completely, packing medallions edge to edge until the ground survives only as narrow channels between them. This one does the opposite. The medallions are spaced along the centre line with generous golden ground between, and what fills that space is not more pattern but scattered incident — small leaves, hooked sprays and rosettes placed loosely, the way flowers fall rather than the way tiles fit. The result is a runner that reads calm from a doorway and detailed underfoot, which is a different proposition from the dense lattice designs and worth choosing deliberately. The silk is doing the second job. It sits in the medallion interiors and the scattered motifs rather than in the ground, so those elements return light while the golden field stays matte, and the pattern appears to float slightly above the surface as you walk past it.
