Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A sage green rug with a soft, faded floral design: fine branching stems, small leaves and scattered blossoms drift across the whole field, drawn so lightly that they seem to surface and fade back into the ground. There is no medallion and no formal border; the pattern simply runs to the edges.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan in wool and silk. The ground is gently mottled, and the silk in the pattern catches the light, so the flowers appear and disappear as you move around the rug. At 187×295cm this is a large rug for a living room or dining room.

Material: Wool and silk pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. The wool gives strength and body to the ground, and the silk adds sheen to the pattern.

Silk is more delicate than wool and can show pressure marks and changes of light more readily, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

This rug takes a classic allover floral pattern and lets it almost dissolve. Fine branching stems, small leaves and scattered blossoms are spread across the whole field, but they are drawn so softly, and so close in tone to the ground, that the design reads like a memory of a pattern rather than a pattern itself. The ground is gently mottled, with lighter and darker patches drifting across it, which adds to the weathered, washed look. The silk woven into the motifs changes everything with the light: from one angle the rug looks almost plain, and from another the flowers shine through. There is no medallion and no heavy border, so it sits quietly in a room. It suits a calm living or dining room with natural materials and soft colours.
