Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A deep indigo field carries this hand-knotted rug, set with a vertical chain of stepped diamond medallions in ivory and madder red — the layered medallion layout of the Yalameh tribal weavers of south Persia. The dark ground is filled corner to corner with botehs, blossoms, eight-pointed stars and small geometric charms, and a reciprocal border of ivory and red gathers the field. Where the line’s larger rugs are grand, this Medium piece is intimate — the same tribal vocabulary at a more personal scale.

It is hand-knotted in Afghanistan by master weavers working in the older Caucasian and Persian tribal traditions, with a fine, even knot count, a low clipped pile and flat-woven kilim ends. The indigo and madder have depth and a gentle, light-catching variation that machine-made rugs can never reproduce. Multiple ivory and red guard borders of tribal motifs frame the field and draw the whole piece together.

Densely woven and built to last, this is a collector-grade piece — at home in a study, bedroom or seating area. As a hand-made rug, it is genuinely one of a kind. The pile is low, hand-clipped, with kilim ends.

Material: 100 percent hand-spun Afghan wool coloured with natural dyes, naturally rich in lanolin, which gives it softness, a subtle sheen, and a natural resistance to everyday dirt and spills.

Care instructions

  • Vacuum regularly on low suction without a rotating brush.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the colour.
  • Use a professional rug cleaner for any deep clean.
  • Light shedding is normal with new wool and settles within the first few months.

This rug follows the layered medallion style of the Yalameh, a tribal people of south Persia whose weavings stack stepped diamond medallions down a deep field. Here a column of ivory and madder-red medallions climbs a deep indigo ground scattered with botehs, blossoms, stars and small geometric charms, all drawn freehand in the nomadic manner and framed by reciprocal ivory-and-red borders. Knotted entirely by hand in Afghanistan from hand-spun wool and natural dyes, no two motifs are exactly alike and the colours shift softly across the field — the fingerprint of a single weaver at the loom rather than a machine.
