Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

A lapis blue rug with a bold floral design in the style of suzani embroidery: large round blossoms march around a wide border, while the framed centre field is filled with smaller rosettes, curling leaves and scrolling vines. The motifs are drawn big and loose, with a hand-painted feel, and stand out clearly against the deep blue ground.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan in wool. The ground shows natural tonal variation, which gives the large areas of blue movement and depth. At 187×265cm this is a large rug for a living room or dining room.

Material: 100 percent wool pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. Wool is naturally resilient and hard-wearing, and the pile is made for everyday use in living and dining rooms.

A deep ground like this hides everyday marks well, but strong colours can fade unevenly in direct sunlight, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

This design borrows from suzani, the embroidered textiles of Central Asia, known for their large round blossoms. Here those blossoms form the border: big circular flower heads, each with a small rosette at its heart, run in a stately ring around all four sides, with sprigs of leaves filling the gaps between them. Inside a fine frame, the centre field changes pace, with smaller rosettes and fan-shaped leaves set among graceful scrolling vines and scattered leaf shapes. The scale contrast between the bold border and the busier field gives the rug a strong, clear structure. Because the drawing is loose and slightly irregular, the rug has a relaxed, hand-drawn character rather than a stiff formality. It suits a living or dining room that wants one confident piece of colour.
