Rug material

Only one available — one-of-a-kind.

An antique gold rug with a soft, faded floral design: rounded rosettes, palmettes and leafy sprays are spread across the whole field, linked by fine trailing vines and scattered with tiny flower heads. The drawing is done in pale, muted tones only a little lighter than the ground, so the pattern reads as a gentle texture rather than a strong contrast.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan in wool and silk. The silk gives the pale pattern a light sheen against the warm ground, and a plain band runs around the edges in place of a busy border. At 202×302cm this is a large rug for a living room or dining room.

Material: Wool and silk pile, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. The wool gives strength and body to the ground, and the silk adds sheen to the pattern.

Silk is more delicate than wool and can show pressure marks and changes of light more readily, and the pile looks lighter or darker depending on the direction it is brushed.

This rug takes a classic allover floral layout and softens it almost to a whisper. Rounded rosettes, palmettes and leafy sprays are placed evenly across the field, joined by fine trailing vines and dotted with tiny flower heads, but every motif is drawn in pale, muted tones close to the antique gold ground. The result looks gently washed and aged, as if the pattern were fading into the colour. There is no central medallion and no busy border; a plain band frames the edges, so the rug reads as one calm surface from every side. From across the room it shows as a warm block of colour; up close, the flowers and vines appear, catching the light where silk runs through them. It suits a living or dining room with quiet, natural tones.
