This fine Persian Sabzevar is worked in the beloved ‘garden panel’ (khesti) design — a grid of compartments, each a little walled garden holding a flowering tree, cypress, vase or blossoming plant, together forming a Bagh-e Behesht or ‘Garden of Paradise’. Every panel glows in a different colour — red, indigo, green, gold and cream — framed by an ivory border alive with flowering vines, vases and birds. It is one of the most joyful of all Persian designs.

Sabzevar rugs, from the Khorasan region of north-east Persia, are prized for their fine knotting and hard-wearing highland wool. The dense pile only mellows and improves with age. Worked entirely by hand over many months, every compartment is drawn a little differently — the honest mark of a genuine one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece.

Care instructions

Vacuum gently on low suction without a rotating brush, and avoid the fringes.
Use a rug pad underneath to cushion the pile and prevent slipping.
Rotate the rug occasionally so it wears and fades evenly.
Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in, and do not rub.
Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to protect the natural-dyed colours.
Use only a specialist hand-wash rug cleaner for any deep clean.

We ship from Japan to the United States, the United Kingdom and 19 European countries. Shipping is free on orders of ¥150,000 or more (approx. $1,000 / £790 / €920); orders below that ship at a ¥15,000 flat rate (approx. $99 / £79 / €92). Each rug is carefully rolled and wrapped. Orders are dispatched within 3 to 5 business days, then take 7 to 15 business days in transit. Every order ships with tracking. Import duties and taxes may apply in your country; please contact us before ordering for details.

Returns
For a change of mind, contact us within 30 days of delivery. Items must be unused, in original condition and in original packaging. Return shipping is paid by the customer and can be expensive from outside Japan, so please ask us about size or colour before you order. If your rug arrives damaged, defective or not as ordered, contact us with photos within 30 days of delivery: we pay for the return and send a replacement or a full refund.
